Amur Falcon Run Marks Decade of Amur Falcons Conservation in Tamenglong

UKHRUL, NOVEMBER 27: Amur Falcon Run 2025 was on Thursday held in Tamenglong, Manipur marking a decade of Amur falcons conservation in the district. 

Organised under the initiative of DFO Tamenglong, Rainforest Club Tamenglong in collaboration with the 6th Assam Rifles, Tamenglong, 82 runners, including 22 women, participated in the 10 KM Amur Falcon run 2025  with great enthusiasm.  

In the men’s category, Gainithui Malangmei of Pongringlong, Kh Wahid of New Checkon, Pourimyibe Pame of Phoklong, Muhammad Kurbash Khan of Wangjing, were declared as Winner, First-runner up, Second-runner up and Third-runner up, respectively. 

In the women’s category, Kedangwale Panmei of Lungniyam was declared as Winner, KC Kakhunguiliu of Tamenglong ward no 10, Machunkhuanliu Panmei of Duiluan, Njianthualiu Gonmei of Thiulon were declared as Winner, First-runner up, Second-runner up and Third-runner up, respectively. 

The Amur Falcon run event was attended by Dr. Chambo Gonmei, Founder Rainforest Club, Tamenglong, Colonel Navjot Rekhi, Commandant 6 Assam Rifles, Lt. Colonel Anupam 2 IC Assam Rifles Tamenglong, Promeshor Angom, RFO, Tamenglong, civil societies and various ward youth and village leaders of Tamenglong town Headquarter.

“This year satellite transmitters tagging had been extremely successful. Three Amur falcons namely Apapang (A hillock of roosting sites in Chiuluan village), Ahu (Rongmei dialect name of Barak River) and Alang (Rongmei dialect name of Irang River) had put Manipur in World Map of conservation,” an official statement said.

It added, “In a record time of seven days all the three satellite-tagged Amur falcons have reached Africa after crossing the Arabian Sea non-stop for three days.”

Recently, Rainforest Club Tamenglong Founder Chambo Gonmei has been awarded the Guardians of Himalayas Award 2025 at the 7th edition of the Dehradun Literature Festival (DehradunLitFest) held at the Doon International School, Dehradun on Sunday, November 16.
