SP Road Bandh Relaxed for 72 hours under Humanitarian Grounds

Ukhrul, Jan 13: The indefinite bandh imposed on the SP Road by the Koubru Range Liangmai Women’s Union has been relaxed on humanitarian grounds for 72 hours effective noon January 13, 2025. This was informed by the Liangmai Naga Council Eastern Zone Manipur citing a request from Kuki organisations.

The bandh was imposed in protest against the alleged assault of a Naga woman by Kuki volunteers at K. Lungwiram village on January 7, 2025.

The council’s statement which was also signed by the representatives of the Leimakhong Area Protection Committee, Koubru Range Liangmai Women Union, Leimakhong Area Chiefs Organisation, and Eastern Liangmai Chiefs and Chairmen Association stated that the bandh was relaxed on humanitarian grounds at the request of the Leimakhong Area Protection Committee and Leimakhong Area Chiefs Organisation.

“This grace is no other than a time frame for those concerned to have the honor of taking the responsibility to relinquish and surrender the culprits who committed the physical assault on one woman of Konsakhul Lungwiram village”, the council said.

It also added that failure on the part of the concerned within the given time frame (72 hours) would lead to more stern and active demonstrations within the Liangmai Naga inhabited areas.

The council also informed that the relaxation is unanimously mandated by the Liangmai Naga Council – Eastern Zone, Kuobru Range Liangmai Women Union, and Eastern Liangmai Chiefs and Chairmen Association.
