Bomb Blast at Indo-Myanmar Border Kills One Naga Army Cadre, Two Injured

Ukhrul: A powerful bomb explosion occurred near the Indo-Myanmar border at Pillar Nos. 8, 9, and 10 (New Border Pillar Nos. 89, 90, and 91), according to reliable sources.

The explosion, suspected to be planted by Kuki National Army (Burma), claimed the life of one Naga Army cadre and left two others injured on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Major Huseya Assumi, bearing Naga Army No. AB-11362, son of Zhento Assumi of Toshezu village, Nagaland. The two other injured individuals is yet to be identified at the time of filing this report.

According to sources, preliminary reports suggest that the explosion may have been caused by a landmine planted along the Indo-Myanmar border. However, a detailed information is still awaited from official sources.

A condolence service of Late Lieut. Colonel, Posthumous, Hosea Assumi, Sumi Region, Naga Army will be organised by the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim, Wung Tangkhul Region on Wednesday at WTR Hall, Ukhrul Headquarters at 10 PM, as per sources.

Sources also said the body of Lieut. Colonel Hosea Assumi has been transported to Ukhrul Headquarters before being taken to his native village in Nagaland for burial.

It may be mentioned that another Naga Army, Captain R.S. Winson from Ngainga Village, Ukhrul District was killed in action while fighting Kuki National Army (Burma) on June 15, 2024. The NSCN-IM in February 2024 had accused the KNA (B) of killing Honpam Chithung on February 10, 2024, in Myanmar. In a statement, the NSCN-IM warned, “Repeated messages given to the Kuki-Zo people should not be treated casually.”
