SHILLONG: A landmark publication documenting the rich lepidopteran diversity of Meghalaya, titled ‘Butterflies of Meghalaya’ will be unveiled by Governor CH Vijayashankar at Lok Bhavan on June 1.
The book is “regarded as the most comprehensive compilations ever produced on the butterflies of Meghalaya” and presents “an extensive collection of information on 698 Species of Butterflies found across the State,” according to a press communiqué issued by the Governor’s Secretariat on Sunday.
‘Butterflies of Meghalaya’ features detailed documentation, photographs, species records, and research-based insights and is intended as an important reference work for researchers, students, conservationists, nature enthusiasts, and the general public alike.
The publication is authored by Sanjay Sondhi and Krushnamegh Kunte, and reflects years of dedicated study and fieldwork under the supervision of HC Chaudhary, IFS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya.
“The Governor has consistently emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, protection of biodiversity, and the preservation of Meghalaya’s rich flora and fauna,” the communiqué said.
“The unveiling of this significant publication further underlines the collective commitment towards ecological awareness and sustainable conservation efforts in the State.”
The book is “expected to become a significant milestone in the documentation of Meghalaya’s natural heritage and a valuable contribution to environmental literature in the region.”
