Imphal, Mar 21: In an effort to combat the rising threat of illicit drugs and alcohol abuse, residents of Ningombam Mayai Maning Leikai in Imphal West have taken a bold stand by imposing a ban on the sale and consumption of liquor in Ward No. 8 of their locality.

The resolution was a key highlight of an impactful awareness programme held on Friday at the Ningombam Mayai Maning Leikai Community Hall.

The event, focused on the theme “The Impact of Illicit Drugs and Substances on Society and the Collective Responsibility of the Public in Combating Addiction,” was jointly organised by the Ningombam Mayai Maning Leikai Women Development Association and the Committee on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (CADA).

The session attracted local residents, community members, and representatives from various organisations, all of whom expressed their commitment to addressing the issues surrounding drug abuse.

The event was presided over by Maibam Indrani, the president of the Ningombam Mayai Maning Leikai Women Development Association, who welcomed the attendees and emphasised the importance of community participation in combating illicit drug use.

She highlighted the collective effort needed from both the public and organisations to create a drug-free society.

The highlight of the event was the session delivered by Takhellamban Geetchandra Meitei, the secretary general of CADA, who served as the resource person.
