CHANDEL: In a poignant display of solidarity and collective mourning, churches and communities across Chandel District observed candlelight vigils in memory of the six Naga victims—Pastor Kenpibou, Reverend Manu, Phenrongwibou, Phenrilungbou, Dilip, and Kaliwangbou—who were abducted and brutally killed.
The vigils witnessed widespread participation from church congregations and local residents, reflecting the deep grief and anguish felt by the Naga community.
At B. Wangkhera, residents gathered to offer prayers and light candles as a symbol of remembrance and unity. Members of Y/Khutha Baptist Church also lit candles during their worship service, paying tribute to the departed souls and expressing support for the bereaved families. In Anal Khunou village, the entire community joined the observance, demonstrating a strong sense of togetherness in the face of tragedy.
Similarly, members of Thangbung Minou Baptist Church held a candlelight rally, carrying candles in their hands. Lambung Baptist Church held a special prayer service, during which candles were lit in the honour of the deceased and prayers were offered for strength and comfort for their families.

Candlelight vigils and special prayer gatherings were also conducted in Hnatham Baptist Church, Phunchung Baptist Church, Thamlapokpi Baptist Church and other churches irrespective of denominations. The district-wide observance of the vigil underscored the shared sense of loss among the Naga people while reaffirming calls for justice, accountability, and respect for human dignity.
