Chandel Stands in Solidarity with Two Naga Martyrs, Observes Candlelight Vigil

CHANDEL: Following the call of the United Naga Council (UNC), the Nagas in Chandel organised a candlelight vigil in honour of two Tangkhul Naga Martyrs at district headquarter and in Chakpikarong on Thursday evening. In Chandel district headquarter, the vigil was held organised by CNPO and NSUC while in Chakpikarong, it was organised by ANTA.

At the MUGHHS Ground in Chandel, thousands of Nagas held lit candles and shouted slogans such as “We are one”, “Kuknalim” and “Long live Nagalim”.

Welcoming the Nagas, CNPO president D. Thamdok Francis said the Nagas are a peace-loving people and that this gathering was in honour of the two souls who were killed in an ambush on April 18, 2026 in Ukhrul district. He also expressed his gratitude to everyone for coming together as one.

Wng. Kohring, Speaker of UNC and Ruwnglar Elly Anal, president of NSUC also addressed the gathering at the venue and called for unity among the Nagas. They also expressed their gratitude to all those present for being part of the vigil and showing their solidarity with the two Naga martyrs.

The vigil was attended by all presidents of 11 Naga tribe Hohos of the district, student leaders, women leaders, village chiefs, etc.

In Chakpikarong bazar, the vigil was organised by ANTA wherein hundreds from the Anal Naga community gathered and paid homage to the two Tangkhul Naga Martyrs.

Addressing the gathering, Lh. Manahring, VP, ANTA and Nl. Wolhring, president, ALCA called for peace and unity amongst all especially amongst the Naga tribes. Hailing the people for their solidarity, they said that time has come for the Nagas to be united and stand as one against all adversities.

A candlelight vigil was also held at Tuishimi in Pallel under the aegis of the CNPO.

At all the vigils, the people prayed for the departed souls of the two Tangkhul Naga Martyrs and prayed for peace on the state.
