Ukhrul, November 26, 2024: Taking strong exception to the government’s failure to address their demands over the killing of six hostages in Jiribam, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has declared an immediate boycott of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and a two-day total shutdown of all state and central institutions in Manipur. The shutdown is scheduled for November 27 and 28, though essential services, healthcare, and academic institutions will remain unaffected.

The decision to boycott the Home Minister and shut down government institutions came at a press meeting held at COCOMI’s Lamphelpat office today. Speaking at the press meet, the COCOMI Coordinator Somorendro Thokchom criticized the state government for failing to address their key demands over the killing of six hostages, including an infant, by suspected Kuki militants in Jiribam. He pointed out that apart from handing the case over to the NIA, the government failed to meet other key demands including justice for victims, conducting mass operations against Kuki militants, and the repeal of AFSPA recently imposed in areas under six police stations.

Stressing further, the COCOMI Coordinator warned that the organization along with the public will start agitation from Wednesday onward demanding the removal of two Kuki ministers who allegedly collaborated with “Kuki Narco-terrorists” to break the state’s integrity. He also demanded the remaining State MLAs who had pledged support to the people’s movement to clarify their stance. The shutdown and planned agitation aim to pressure the government to resolve the crisis immediately and safeguard the state’s territorial integrity, he added.
