Drugs Weighing 36 Kg Seized in Churachandpur

CHURACHANDPUR: A combined team of District Police and 36 Assam Rifles under the command of Augustine Jangminthang Khongsai ASP (OPS) and under supervision of Gaurav Dogra Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur seized suspected contraband opium weighing 36.054 kgs approx. (37 packets, along with the plastic container) along Sangaikot Sugnu road on Wednesday, police said. 

Based on reliable inputs of movement of contraband items along Sangaikot Sugnu road, the team conducted a surprise frisking and checking along the road and seized contraband opiums weighing 36.054 kg approximately from Letminthang Haokip (45 years) son of Jangsei Haokip of S Kanam Veng, Churachandpur, the police said.

“A bolero was detected approaching in a suspicious manner, it was stopped and on interrogation of the driver who identified himself as Letminthang Haokip (45 years) son of Jangsei Haokip of S Kanam Veng, Churachandpur, admitted to have transported contraband opiums in his vehicle. So accordingly, in the presence of the magistrate and civil witnesses conducted a search of the vehicle and found suspected contraband opium weighing 36.054 kgs approx. (37 packets, along with the plastic container). 

Following proper procedures the accused person was arrested and the contraband drugs, bolero vehicle and one iPhone 16 Pro Max were seized from his possession and handed over to Churachandpur PS for taking necessary legal action, the police added.
