FIR Lodged Against Social Media User for ‘Provocative’ Post on Maova Land Dispute

UKHRUL: The Maova Village Council has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Medziphema Police Station against a social media user identified as Lalboi Kipgen, who allegedly “misrepresented a land issue and portrayed it as a communal conflict between the two communities,” the FIR stated.

According to the complaint dated February 16, “the post contains provocative and misleading statements which are likely to disturb communal harmony, create tension between communities, and disrupt peace and law and order in our village.”

The council has requested that the accused be investigated under relevant sections of the law pertaining to “promoting enmity between communities, spreading false information, and disturbing public peace.”

The statements were reportedly made on X, and the user account can no longer be found. Reports stated that an investigation is underway and no arrests have been made so far.

The incident occurred at Maova village under Medziphema Sub-Division on February 13. A violent clash broke out between members of the Chakroma Public Organisation (CPO) and Maova villagers, resulting in 48 people being injured from both sides. Six vehicles were burnt, 15 vehicles were damaged, five houses were burnt, 20 private houses were damaged, and seven shops including the Maova Community Hall, were reportedly set ablaze.
