Tamenglong, Aug 29: The 93rd death anniversary of the revered freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang was commemorated today at Jadonang Park, Tamenglong Headquarters. The event was marked by a solemn tribute to Jadonang’s legacy of resistance against British colonial rule and his vision for an independent ‘Makam Gwangdi.’

Minister of Water Resources and Relief Disaster Management, Pouh Awangbow Newmai, presided as the Chief Guest, with Pouh Dinganglung Gangmei, IAS (Retd), HAC Chairman, and Pouh Janghemlung Panmei, MLA of Tamenglong, serving as the Function President and Chief Host respectively.

The program commenced with the unveiling of a life-size statue of Haipou Jadonang by Chief Guest Awangbow Newmai, accompanied by Dinganglung Gangmei and MLA Janghemlung Panmei. In his address, Minister Awangbow Newmai highlighted Jadonang’s role as a visionary leader who sought to unify the Nagas and challenge British rule. He urged the gathering to honor Jadonang’s legacy by working for the betterment of their community.

Function President Dinganglung Gangmei emphasized that the British termed Jadonang’s movement as “Naga Raj,” underlining the Zeliangrong people’s historical resistance against colonial powers. He called on the community to take pride in their contributions to India’s freedom struggle and to continue striving for unity and common causes.

Chief Host MLA Janghemlung Panmei extolled Jadonang as a valiant leader and a symbol of resistance, whose contributions are significant both in Naga and Indian history. The statue, he said, will serve as a lasting reminder of Jadonang’s sacrifices and inspire future generations to uphold the values of freedom and unity.

The day’s events underscored Haipou Jadonang’s enduring legacy and the ongoing commitment of the Zeliangrong people to honor their history and contribute to the nation’s progress.
