Illegal drug manufacturing unit busted in Thoubal

Imphal, March 9: Police in Thoubal district of Manipur on Thursday busted an illegal drug-manufacturing unit and seized suspected processed brown sugar and other items used in the manufacturing of the contraband drugs.

Two persons allegedly involved in running the drug-manufacturing unit were also arrested, police said. One of them was arrested after overpowering him when he attempted to escape from the hands of the police, the police also said.

A team of Thoubal district busted the illegal drug manufacturing unit at Yairipok Changamdabi under Andro police station of Imphal East district during an early morning operation, the police source said.

The illegal drug factory was discovered when the police team launched an operation based on specific information regarding concealment of illegal drugs at Yairipok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai.

The police raided the house of one Md Abdul Ali alias Raghu (32) of Yairipok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai around 6.20 am and recovered a large quantity of drugs, the police also said.

The police recovered 906 gram of heroin powder, 936 gram of opium and 279 gram of Ammonium Chloride powder along with 5 gram of brown sugar, the police source further said.

Abdul Ali was instantly arrested and interrogated on the spot from which the police came to know that the drugs and other items recovered from his house were handed to him by one Md Muhamuddin alias Ibocha (60) of Yaripok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai.

When the police team immediately rushed to the house of Md Muhamuddin, two unknown persons ran out in a bid to escape, the police also said.

The police team managed to overpower one of the men.

When he was interrogated on the spot, the police revealed that the brown sugar and heroin seized from earlier arrested by the same police team were manufactured at his house by his son identified as Md Naaman Khuleibam who had managed to escape from the scene.

During a raid in the house, the police recovered 1.491kg of suspected brown sugar residue, 28 kg of lime used in the manufacturing of brown sugar and utensils used in manufacturing the illegal drugs.

The police, later, handed over the two arrested persons along with the recovered items to Andro police station where a case was registered against them, the police source added.
