Senapati, Jan 6: Javeinai Ana A. of Purul Akutpa, contestant No. 9 was crowned Miss Thounii, 2023 at Thounii Night at the ongoing Poumai Thounii, 2023 held at Phaibung Khullen. Altogether, 13 contestants were selected to the beauty pageant held on Thursday night.

During their introduction, all of the contestants talked about the need for women empowerment and their desire to bring better change in the society.

Traditional attires were showcased in the first round of the pageant. The second round was followed by casual attires. Third round with top 8 designer round and final round with question round. 

Out of the 13 contestants, final 8 included Sl. No. 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11.

Five sub-titles were awarded to contestant Sl. No. 7 for Miss Photogenic, Sl. No. 8 Miss Talented, Sl. No. 2 Miss Congeniality, Sl. No. 1 Miss Personality and Sl. No. 11 as the Best Catwalk

  1. Miss Thounii, 2023: Javeinai Ana A. of Purul Akutpa bearing Sl. No. 9
  2. 1st runner-up: KR. Ziiveine Megdalene of Phuba (Koirengei) bearing Sl. No. 1
  3. 2nd runner-up: Thounii S. C. of Phaibung (Makhrelui) bearing Sl. No. 7.The winners took home a cash Prize of

    Rs. 1 lakh, Rs. 70,000 and Rs. 40,000 were awarded to the crowned Miss, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up respectively. 

Jury members included Banner Lanamai James, (Rubaru Mr. India Youth Icon 2022), P Achevei (Mega Mister Northeast 2021-2022) and Liba Julita (Former Miss Thounii).

Valedictory function was graced by Ng. Lorho, president, United Naga Council (UNC) as the honoured guest in the presence of different social leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, UNC president Ng. Lorho appreciated the celebration of Thounii, 2023 under the theme, “Sustaining culture” which is very relevant to the present time. He said that one’s identity is known from one’s culture who urged for the need to preserve and promote them. UNC President grieved over the present age where different youngsters do not know their culture which is dying away day by day.

While lauding the Poumai community for various contributions in nation building, Ng. Lorho also urged the people to take lead role in peace building and bringing people together even in future. On behalf of the United Naga Council, the president urged the wrestling players to display their skills and talents with discipline and not to show indiscipline or ill manner during the game. The president further sought the cooperation, love and support of all to ensure better place to live in as well as to bring better relationship through such display of different cultural items. Later, the president opened the game open.

20 wrestlers representing different villages of Poumai community took part in the wrestling competitions. Rakhoveio Liimai of Phuba Khuman bagged the championship during the competition and took away cash prize of Rs. 75,000, S. Veila of Chingmai Khullen bagged the runner-up and took away with Rs. 40,000 Veiveypu of Tungjoy and L. Navei of Kodom Khullen were adjusted with consolation prizes for Rs. 10,000 each.
