“The recent accident where the movement of VIPs have caused the death of a youth and severely injured his partner, give rise to the menace of these VIP cultures in our state,” he said.

Passah also pointed out that the supreme court in Abhay Singh Vs The Union of India case termed red beacons a “menace” and said, “A large number of those using vehicles with red lights have no respect for the laws of the country and they treat the ordinary citizens with contempt. The supreme court also cited that the use of red lights on the vehicles of public representatives and civil servants has no parallel in the world democracies. The movements of these VIPs on red beacons have caused traffic jams, accidents and inconveniences to the general public.”
