Ukhrul, March 13: The Kuki-Zo Council in a press release said it declared the martyrdom of Lalgouthang Singsit, a revered member of the Kuki-Zo community, who sacrificed his life in the ongoing struggle for justice and dignity for the Kuki-Zo people. The Council said it honored his heroic and noble act, stating that his martyrdom has cemented his place in the history of the Kuki-Zo community.

Lalgouthang Singsit was laid to rest today at the Kuki-Zo Martyr Cemetery in Phaijang, Sadar Hills, in a ceremony marked by reverence and resolve.

The Kuki-Zo Council vowed that his sacrifice would not be in vain, reaffirming their commitment to continue the fight for justice and the rights of the Kuki-Zo people.

In a related development, the Kuki-Zo Council officially announced the lifting of the indefinite shutdown, effective from 7:30 PM on March 13, 2025. The shutdown, which had been called earlier as a form of protest, was lifted after careful deliberation by the Council. However, the Council made it clear that while the shutdown has ended, they remain vehemently opposed to the Free Movement policy announced by the Home Ministry.

The Kuki-Zo body stated that the Free Movement policy undermines the justice process for the Kuki-Zo people and vowed to vigorously oppose any move toward unrestricted free movement until justice is duly served. They emphasized that the sacrifices of martyrs like Lalgouthang Singsit must be honored through the achievement of rightful justice, including the establishment of a separate political administration to ensure justice, peace, and progress for the Kuki-Zo people.

The Kuki-Zo Council called on all relevant authorities to recognize and respect their legitimate demands. They urged for a peaceful resolution that would bring justice and security to the Kuki-Zo community, ensuring that the sacrifices of their martyrs are not forgotten.
