Imphal: In a major push to strengthen law enforcement and improve public safety, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday flagged off 477 newly procured vehicles for the Manipur Police at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal under the “Assistance to States for Modernisation of Police” scheme.
Describing the occasion as a historic moment, the Chief Minister said the new fleet would significantly improve police infrastructure in the hill districts and enhance emergency response capabilities across the state.
The vehicles flagged off included 100 Hero motorcycles, 39 Bolero B6 vehicles, 50 Bolero Neo vehicles, 74 Tata Yodha vehicles, 10 Mine Protected Vehicles, 20 Tata trucks, 30 Tata 407 vehicles, 20 Mahindra buses, 60 bulletproof Rakshak vehicles, 19 water tankers, 50 Bolero Camper vehicles and five HMR vehicles.

Referring to the violence that began on May 3, 2023, Singh said the Manipur Police had carried out their duties with courage and dedication, often risking their lives to maintain peace and prevent further conflict. He also stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs had approved Rs. 196.61 crore on October 31, 2025, for police modernisation projects in the state.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the police force and modernising policing infrastructure. He added that the state government had increased ration allowances and uniform allowances for police personnel, which had remained unchanged for a long period. Singh also praised Director General of Police Rajiv Singh and his team for taking initiatives towards police modernisation.
He further expressed gratitude to the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB and other security agencies for their continued support in maintaining law and order in the state. Appealing to the public to avoid violence and provocative actions during protests and rallies, Singh urged all communities to work together to restore peace and harmony in Manipur.
Speaking at the programme, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said the initiative reflected the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to strengthen police and security forces across the country. He said the new vehicles would greatly improve the mobility, efficiency and emergency response capability of the Manipur Police.
Konthoujam also emphasised the importance of maintaining strong public-police relations and urged police personnel to remain people-friendly. He noted that better intelligence gathering and public cooperation would help authorities anticipate and prevent incidents more effectively.

In his keynote address, DGP Rajiv Singh highlighted the importance of modernising police infrastructure, particularly in the hill districts. He informed that 54 per cent of the vehicles would be deployed in hill districts, while the remaining 46 per cent would be allocated to valley districts.
The DGP also outlined key achievements of the Manipur Police. He said the Anti-Extortion Cell had led to the arrest of nearly 1,000 individuals so far. Under the state government’s anti-drug campaign, more than 700 people had been arrested and around 600 cases registered. He further revealed that the Manipur Police had signed an MoU with the National Security Guard (NSG) for specialised training programmes for police personnel.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, senior police officials, officers from the Army, CRPF and other security agencies, along with invited guests.
