Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday said that the state government will take befitting actions against those involved in today’s ambush on his advance security convoy along NH-37.

Talking to reporters after visiting the personnel injured in today’s ambush by suspected militants at Shija Hospital, Imphal, Biren Singh condemned the ambush on his security team by suspected Kuki militants at T Laijang near Kotlen on National Highway 37, saying that it was a direct attack on the state government.

The ambush occurred earlier today as the security team was heading to Jiribam ahead of the chief minister’s scheduled visit to the district for security measures.

The chief minister condemned the attack and said that his government took the ambush seriously as it amounted to attacking the state government and the chief minister of the state.

“Stringent steps would be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice,” he asserted, while stating that the government has been acting with restraint while dealing with the prevailing conflict considering that it was between the ethnic communities and will one day come to an understanding.

“However, they are acting excessively instead of coming to senses,” Biren said.

“This is a direct assault on the government. We will take a stand firmly against such acts of violence. We will act accordingly,” he said.
