Manipur extends ban on internet till May 31; record 23 days now and counting

Imphal, May 26: The Manipur government has further extended ban on internet in the entire territorial jurisdiction of the State of Manipur with immediate effect from May 26 for another five more days. The State government has been effectively banning internet broadband, Mobile data in Manipur for at least 23 days now, ever since May 4.

N Biren Singh’s government snapped internet in parts of Manipur from May 3 evening onwards.

The government said the order is issued to prevent any disturbances of peace and public order.

Former Manipur BJP spokesperson Ch Bijoy said that banning internet service will not help avoid spreading rumours. The best solution is to resume the internet service and the government should also have the capability to bear the criticism of people’s voice, as per Imphal Free Press report.

Friday’s order issued by H Gyan Prakash commissioner , Home stated that further suspension of mobile data services/internet/data services including broadband services and internet/data services through VASTs of Bharatnet Phase-II is further suspended in the territorial jurisdiction of the state of Manipur.
