NONEY/UKHRUL: Tension erupted in Noney district, Manipur following an attack on Naga farmers allegedly by suspected armed Kuki miscreants on Tuesday morning.
As per sources, suspected Kuki militants allegedly attacked three Naga farmers who were on the way to the fields near Goitang Naga village, Duithanjang in Khoupum subdivision of Noney district, Manipur around 9 am.
The three farmers who came under the attack were identified as Kagundai Riamei, 60; his wife Lungdailu Riamei, 55; and son Gailatou Riamei, 35.
Fortunately, the three managed to escape safely. Earlier, panic gripped the area as one of the three farmers went reportedly untraceable following the incident. However, he was later confirmed to have returned safe and unharmed after escaping the deadly attack, the sources added.

The incident has triggered serious concern and fear among the locals who have demanded urgent government accountability and strict security measures in the surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, the Khoupum Area Villages Authority Council (KAVAC) and civil society organisation(s) have strongly condemned the attack on innocent unarmed farmers and warned that they will not tolerate a continuous offensive upon the peace-loving public.
“Following the report of firing upon Rongmei Naga villagers of the Zeliangrongpui Region, in a highly tense situation, the combined Village Volunteers retaliated against the infiltrated militant and saved three soft-targeted civilians in time,” KAVAC said in a statement.
It added that the local people of Khoupum Areas were deeply concerned over the provoking war against them in their own territory and demanded urgent government accountability and strict security measures in the peripheral and vulnerable areas.
