Imphal, October 28: A village chief from T Khonomphai village in Henglep sub-division, Churachandpur district of Manipur, was allegedly beaten to death by some armed persons on Monday evening, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Mangthang Haokip, the chief of T Khonomphai village. The incident reportedly took place around 4:30 pm on Monday, when members of an armed group attacked him, sources said.

Because the village is in a remote hill area, locals carried the injured chief to Khopijang village, where arrangements were made to take him to Churachandpur District Hospital. However, officials said he died on reaching at Khopijang, before he could be taken to the hospital.
