SENAPATI: While Mother’s Day is being celebrated across the world on Sunday, the congregation of MBC Chakre Chovow marked a more significant occasion as the church commemorated its 50th year of observing Mother’s Day.
Held under the theme “Thopfii sii olekashi leno alia mazhipupra lowo sothulowe” based on Ephesians 4:16, the programme witnessed the gathering of nearly 1,000 people, including church leaders, mothers, youth, and well-wishers.
The celebration featured sermons and speeches by Rev. Chiluyio, Pastor, and S Eshia, former Sunday School Superintendent.
Speaking during the programme, Ch. Illa, former Chairperson of the Women Society, reflected on the history of Mother’s Day celebrations in the church. She shared that a resolution regarding the observance was adopted in 1975, and the first Mother’s Day celebration in MBC began in 1976.

Quoting from Luke 6:44 and Psalms 118, she encouraged the younger generation to live in peace and strive for success while remaining rooted in faith. She said continuous reading of the Word of God would bring blessings and urged believers to live upright lives as true Christians.
Delivering the sermon, Rev. Chiluyio extended greetings to all mothers on the occasion of Mother’s Day and the Golden Jubilee celebration. Referring to Ephesians 4:16, he stressed that Christians must not only listen to sermons or read the Bible, but also reflect Christian values in their daily lives.
“There are times when people hear the Word of God, yet their lifestyle speaks differently. As Christians, we are called to live with kindness and love,” he said.
He highlighted the important role mothers play in both the family and the church, stating that mothers are often the peacemakers and the strength of the household. He added that families and churches remain strong because of the sacrifices, prayers, and responsibilities carried by mothers.
