Shillong, June 30: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organization (COMSO) conducted a surprise inspection of the infiltration check post at Ratacherra in East Jaiñtia Hills on Monday to assess the effectiveness of document verification procedures.

Led by Shri Sambormi Lyngdoh, Vice Chairman of COMSO Jaiñtia Hills Region and President of the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC), the inspection team included members from key COMSO, affiliated bodies such as the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Jaiñtia Students Movement (JSM), and JNC.

According to the team, document verification was being carried out diligently in accordance with legal procedures. Several individuals lacking valid documentation were reportedly detained and turned back at the post. “The checks are being conducted properly, which is crucial to safeguard the state from unverified outsiders,” said Lyngdoh, underlining the growing concern over unchecked influx and its potential to disrupt local rights and resources.

The inspection follows a resolution passed by COMSO during a meeting in Shillong on June 21, where the organization decided to review the functioning of all infiltration check posts across the state.

Lyngdoh emphasized that Monday’s visit was only the beginning. “This is just the first phase. The actual measures to control influx will be rolled out soon, and we won’t hesitate to take strong action if needed,” he warned.

COMSO’s renewed vigilance reflects mounting public anxiety over illegal entry into the state, and the group has vowed to remain proactive in safeguarding Meghalaya’s demographic and cultural integrity.
