Meghalaya to Host Regional AI Impact Conference, Sets Stage for India, AI Summit 2026

SHILLONG, NOVEMBER 20: The Meghalaya government, in collaboration with the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, will organise the Regional AI Impact Conference at the State Convention Centre, Shillong on December 3.

This conference is part of a national series leading to the India–AI Impact Summit 2026. The Information Technology and Communications Department, Government of Meghalaya, is the nodal department for the event, with IIM Shillong selected as the Knowledge Partner.

Themed “AI for CE (Artificial Intelligence for Citizens’ Empowerment): Smarter Governance, Better Lives,” the conference will bring together senior government officials, industry leaders, global technology firms, academic institutions, and startups to deliberate on the transformative role of AI in climate resilience, effective governance, and building safer, more equitable societies. The IndiaAI Mission team will also showcase various AI-related initiatives undertaken by the Government of India.

Parallel sessions in the Showcase Arena will provide a platform for stakeholders to present AI initiatives and innovations, participate in ideation and brainstorming sessions, and network with like-minded individuals and organisations.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will grace the occasion as the chief guest. The event will also witness the ceremonial launches of the Bhashini Hackathon (Garo and Khasi languages), the MeghDEE program, the signing of an MoU for setting up a Data and AI Lab, and the signing of an MoU with MATH T-Hub.

The Union Minister from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, senior officers from central ministries, and representatives from North Eastern states are expected to attend. The Chief Minister is set to make major policy announcements, projecting Meghalaya as a regional AI trailblazer and hub for technology-driven innovation.

The conference will also feature a roundtable between the Chief Minister and leading investors, aimed at positioning Meghalaya as an emerging digital and innovation hub for Eastern India. An exhibition at the venue will showcase AI and emerging technology initiatives by government organisations, industry partners, and academic institutions.

Pravin Bakshi, Commissioner and Secretary, IT&C Department, said pre-event campaigns at institutions such as IIM Shillong, NIT Meghalaya, and NIELIT Shillong have already begun to raise AI awareness among students and create excitement for the regional event. The conference is expected to generate actionable insights and policy recommendations for the India–AI Impact Summit 2026.
