Meitei Christian Churches tells tribal forum to remove Meitei Churches list from writ petition to SC

Imphal: The Meitei Christian Churches Council Manipur (MCCCM) has appealed the Manipur Tribal Forum Delhi (MTFD) to remove the names of Meitei Churches in the latter’s writ petition No. 540/2023 in the Supreme Court of India on Sunday.

“It has come to our attention that the Kukis have included some of the 251 Meitei Churches that were burned and dismantled during the current communal violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in the list of Kuki churches,” MCCCM said in a press release.

While the Meitei Churches said the petitioner should be held responsible for any consequences that may arise from the inclusion of Meitei churches without the consent of the individual churches, it “strongly condemned MTFD’s attempt to align the Meitei churches with the Kukis in the aforementioned writ petition.”

The Meitei Christian Churches Council Manipur is a unified body representing Meitei churches and denominations. We are dedicated to upholding peace, unity, and harmony among all communities and are committed to safeguarding the integrity of the state, MCCCM added.
