The Mizoram government said it will not withdraw its security forces from the trouble-hit Assam and Mizoram border as long as problems prevail.

This information was disclosed by Mizoram Home minister Lalchamliana on Thursday. The Home minister said the Mizoram government can withdraw its forces only when normalcy returns.
On Wednesday, the Cachar district administration of Assam had reportedly asked the Mizoram government to withdraw its security forces from the border areas.

The Mizoram Home then said the Mizoram government has accepted the demarcation notified in 1875 under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) of 1873 as the actual boundary of Mizoram and Assam. According to him, it is a “historical boundary of the state which has been accepted since the forefathers of Mizos”.

The Mizoram Home minister then said people from Lailapur imposed blockade on National Highway-306 at Lailapur and highways linking Mizoram’s Bairabi village with Assam’s Hailaikandi district since Wednesday. The minister then said that the issue should not be seen through a communal line.

The Mizoram Home minister then said that residents from both the sides of the border should live with harmony. “It is not a communal issue,” he added.

The Mizoram Home minister then said the state government is trying its best so that the transportation of essential commodities are not affected.
