Ukhrul, June 28: Two journalists from Mizoram HC Vanlalruata and Isaac Zoramsanga have scripted history, becoming the first from the northeastern state to be part of a BBC team that won an international Emmy Award for a documentary on civil war in Myanmar.
The Mizo journalists provided crucial on-ground support to BBC‘s coverage on Myanmar‘s Civil War from Chin state, western Myanmar and visited a rebel militia headquarters and a village that had been bombarded by junta forces, providing crucial on-ground inputs for the reports.
The “historic moment” was applauded by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who also commended the duo for their “dedication and courage in reporting” from the area devastated by the protracted civil war.
“I congratulate HC Vanlalruata and Isaac Zoramsanga for their historic achievement as the first from Mizoram to be part of a team that won an International Emmy Award. Your dedication and courage in reporting Myanmar’s Civil War make Mizoram proud,” CM Lalduhoma posted on X on Thursday.

Expressing his pride and joy in their achievement Isaac Zoramsanga extended his gratitude to the BBC team for acknowledging their efforts.
“It is difficult to put into words how thrilled we are. I’m overjoyed to see my name on the Emmy list. Our documentary’s primary focus is on the aftermath of the Civil War, the ways in which civilians oppose the military, and the general impacts on society. I would like to express my gratitude to the BBC team for acknowledging our efforts in producing this documentary,” Zoramsanga said.
The five-member BBC team, including the two from Mizoram, went to Chin state in western Myanmar in 2024 and travelled for 10 days to get ground reports.
