UKHRUL: Mizoram Police have seized 72.514 kg of suspected methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately Rs. 58.01 crore in Saitual district, marking the district’s largest-ever methamphetamine seizure.
Per Mizoram Police, the seizure was made in the early hours of Friday when a special team of the Saitual District Executive Force (DEF), conducting routine vehicle checks at Kualmawi in Keifang, intercepted a truck (Regn No. MZ-05 A-8053) travelling from Manipur towards Aizawl, around two kilometres south of Saitual Police Station. However, Mizoram Police have not stated whether the seized drugs originated in Manipur or whether the state was only part of the consignment’s transit route.
As police attempted to stop the vehicle, the truck driver fled the scene and remains absconding.

During a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered 61 bundles of suspected methamphetamine tablets weighing 72.514 kg, concealed inside a specially fabricated cavity above the driver’s cabin.
Two people travelling in the truck who were identified as Kaidul Islam Laskar (21) and Rafik Uddin Barbhuiya (32), both residents of Pakua Punji Bhaibonti in Assam’s Hailakandi district, were arrested in connection with the case.
Police said a case has been registered at Saitual Police Station under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the absconding driver and uncover the wider drug trafficking network.
