According to the union, the incident took place around 9:30 PM on October 30 when the four student leaders were returning home to Chandel from Kakching Lamkhai. The victims have been identified as Gedion Kiirii, President of the Monsang Students’ Union (STS), Japhou; Wanglar Phillip, General Secretary; Ts. Hollyson, and Th. Moni, both from Liwa Khullen village.

The group reportedly stopped their vehicles near Bijoypur for a brief halt when six to seven unknown persons arrived on an Activa scooter and an E-auto and launched an unprovoked attack. In the assault, Gedion Kiirii sustained a deep injury on his forehead, while Ts. Hollyson suffered facial injuries. Both were later treated at Komlathabi PHC around 10 p.m.

In a statement issued on Friday, Sirti Upa Ruh described the attack as “brutal” and a “direct attempt on the lives” of the student leaders. The union urged the authorities to trace and arrest those responsible and warned that further agitation would follow if justice is delayed.

An FIR has been filed at Kakching Police Station by Wanglar Phillip Monsang, General Secretary of the Monsang Naga Students’ Union. Copies have also been submitted to the OCs of Chandel and Pallel Police Stations for necessary action.
