Chandel: The ‘Thanksgiving Holy Mass cum Felicitation Programme’ of Most Rev. Dominic Lumon, DD Archbishop Emeritus of Imphal was held on Monday at his native village Monsang Pantha, Chandel. The programme was organized by family members in collaboration with the village church, authority, parish priest and Monsang Catholic Association (MCA).

The Thanksgiving Holy Mass was attended by Most Rev. (Dr) Linus Neli, DD, Archbishop of Imphal and distinguished senior priests, fathers, nuns, catechists, pastors, chiefs, CSO leaders, well-wishers, friends, relatives and family members from Monsang villages, neighbouring communities and many others.
During the felicitation programme, “The Incredible Journey” the biography of Dominic Lumon, authored by John S. Shilshi, IPS (Retd) was released by Most Rev. (Dr.) Linus Neli, DD, Archbishop of Imphal in the presence of the author with best compliments and prayer support. The author John Shilshi also shared briefly on how the idea to write the biography of Dominic Lumon evolved which was truly inspired by the Holy Spirit, according to him.

Most Rev. Dominic Lumon, DD Archbishop Emeritus of Imphal was felicitated by the Monsang Catholic Association headed by Dr. Sh. Wilson Monsang, President (MCA) with a traditional Monsang shawl and memento as a souvenir. It was followed on by unveiling the monument in respect of Dominic Lumon’s brief biography sketch which was administered by Rev. Shonnai Saka, President Chandel Naga Christian Forum (CNCF).
During the felicitation session, short speech and gratitude gifts and memento s were bestowed upon Dominic Lumon by SUR (Monsang Tribe Union), Parish Pastoral Council, St. Peter’s Parish, Chief, Monsang Pantha village, family members and well-wishers led by Ts. Warshing.
Many hundreds of people across varied communities attended the felicitation programme in support and appreciation of Most Rev. Dominic Lumon for his long journey of dedicated service in the catholic fraternity in Manipur and outside. Beautiful prayer dance by Sunday class students (HCCC) and blessing folk song presentation by village elders of Monsang Pantha added color and cultural taste to the event.

Most Rev. Dominic Lumon, speaking on his ‘Thanksgiving and Felicitation Programme’ thanked God first and everyone who has supported and cooperated in his long journey as a humble servant of God. For almost 22 years, he had been serving as the Archbishop of Imphal, making him the first bishop from Manipur that too from a small community called Monsang. In another three years also, by God’s grace, he will be completing 50 years of priesthood since his priestly ordination on 6th February, 1977. He is privileged and blessed to have been called upon by God from a humble family background. He remarked that “let us learn to be thankful and grateful to God in all circumstances”, and appreciate the congregation, family members, MCA and St Peter’s Parish Priest and dignitaries from religious and secular fields for making the thanksgiving cum Felicitation event a meaningful and success.

The programme moderated by Ts. Molarshing concluded with a vote of thanks by Rev. Sr. Rose Toponi, SABS and closing and refreshment prayer by Rev. Fr. Albert Rakesh, Asst. P.P. Sacred Heart Parish, Hundung.
Speaking to UT correspondent, many who have attended the programme opined that the life journey of Most Rev. Dominic Lumon, DD. Archbishop Emeritus of Imphal has been truly an “incredible and inspiring” in many ways.
