UKHRUL: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has achieved a major breakthrough against transnational drug trafficking networks operating along the India–Myanmar border with the arrest of Myanmar-based drug kingpin Thancintuang alias Chintuang in Delhi following extensive surveillance and coordinated interstate operations.

According to officials, Chintuang was a key supplier of methamphetamine and heroin operating through the Myanmar–Mizoram–Manipur–Assam–Tripura–Bangladesh corridor. He was wanted in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act by the NCB and other drug law enforcement agencies.

NCB said Chintuang is the prime accused in a 2024 case involving the seizure of 14 kg of methamphetamine and 2.8 kg of heroin near Dulte in Mizoram’s Khawzawl district, as well as a 2025 case involving the seizure of 49.1 kg of methamphetamine in Aizawl.

Investigations revealed that the syndicate handled narcotics valued at nearly Rs 115 crore and relied on a network of local facilitators, logistics coordinators and hawala operators to transport consignments and channel funds across states and international borders.

During the operation, the NCB also arrested several close associates of Chintuang, including hawala operator Lalrampari and other logistics coordinators linked to the network. Multiple bank accounts and assets connected to the syndicate have also been frozen as part of the financial investigation.

The Bureau said sustained intelligence development, interstate coordination and follow-up operations helped uncover the extensive trafficking network routing narcotic consignments through Mizoram, Manipur, Assam and Tripura into different parts of India and Bangladesh.

NCB described the arrest as a significant success in its ongoing crackdown on organised cross-border narcotics trafficking in the Northeast region.
