UKHRUL, NOV 16: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a significant breakthrough in the Red Fort area bombing case with the arrest of a Kashmiri man accused of helping the suicide bomber who drove the explosive-laden car into the busy locality earlier this month.
The accused, Amir Rashid Ali, was picked up from Delhi on Saturday. Investigators said the car used in the November 10 blast—which killed 10 people and left 32 injured—was registered in his name. The NIA took over the probe from Delhi Police and began tracking Amir soon after, calling him a “key link” in the plot.
According to the agency, Amir had travelled from Samboora, Pampore in Jammu & Kashmir to Delhi to assist the alleged bomber, Umar Un Nabi, in purchasing the vehicle. That car was later converted into a vehicle-borne IED. Forensic teams have confirmed that the man who died inside the blast vehicle was Umar Un Nabi, an Assistant Professor of General Medicine at Al Falah University in Faridabad and a native of Pulwama.
As part of the widening investigation, officers have also seized another vehicle owned by Nabi. It is currently being examined for clues. So far, the NIA has questioned 73 witnesses, including several of the injured.
The NIA said it is working closely with police forces in Delhi, J&K, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, along with other central agencies, to trace the wider network behind the bombing. The hunt for additional suspects continues under case RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI.
