In a letter dated February 5, 2025, the NSCN-K Peace group stated that it had come to their attention that travelers within the Hkamti Township were being forcibly recruited as soldiers against their wishes. The group asserted that such actions undermined the four political objectives of the state, particularly national stability and the peace and prosperity of local communities.

While reiterating that it did not oppose the nationally mandated conscription laws, it maintained that the act of forcibly recruiting individuals not only instilled fear among the public but also disrupted the peace and stability of the community. The group then issued a stern warning to completely refrain from any form of forced recruitment of new soldiers.
