NSCN Denies Reports of Power Struggle Over Naga Army Leadership

Ukhrul, November 5: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN/GPRN) has dismissed as false and misleading the reports circulating on social media about an alleged dispute over the appointment of the Naga Army’s top commander.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NSCN/GPRN said the promotion of Maj. Gen. Honreishang Shadang, MSM, MC, to the rank of Lieutenant General and his designation as successor to General Anthony Ningkhan as Longvibu (Commander-in-Chief) was a collective decision of the NSCN leadership.

“The appointment was made strictly in line with the Naga Army Rules and Regulations. No unilateral decision was taken, and there is no question of any power struggle within the organization,” the statement clarified.

The group also criticized certain online platforms for sensationalizing unverified information and urged them to refrain from amplifying what it described as “concocted stories” aimed at serving vested interests.

“The order issued by Yaruiwo on 29th October,2025 stands as it is,” the statement said.
