Death at Sainik School Arunachal Pradesh: Family Alleges Ragging, 8 Students Apprehended

Ukhrul, November 5: 12 year old boy studying in class VII, Sainik School Niglok, East Siang District Arunachal Pradesh was found dead in an overhead water supply tank on the school campus.

The incident was reported to the police by the Vice Principal of Sainik School on November 1, alleging that the student died by suicide. Following the report, an FIR was lodged by the father of the deceased, Tadu Tani.

Tani alleged that his son was a victim of group ragging by senior students. “Some senior students from class VIII and X are involved in ragging. We believe this is the reason behind my son’s death,” Tani told local reporters while collecting his child’s belonging from the school.

On Tuesday (November 4) 8 students were apprehended by the Arunachal Police and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Pasighat.

The Principle Magistrate of the JJB (Juvenile justice Board) has sent the CCLs (Children in Conflict with Law) to the custody of the Vice Principal of Sainik School Niglok for a week.

Guardians of the accused students have also been directed to execute an undertaking or bond in Form 8 under Rule 11(6) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules.

Police sources confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to collect further evidence to bring the case to its logical conclusion.

The Apatani Students’ Union(ASU) in collaboration with the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), All Lower Subansiri District Students’ Union (ALSDSU) And All East Siang District Students’ Union (ESDSU) visited Sainik School Niglok to inquire into the tragic incident.

During their visit the student bodies expressed deep concern and issued a two-week ultimatum to the district administration and police to ensure a fair and transparent investigation warning that failure to deliver justice within the stipulated time could lead to democratic agitation.

The unions also urged strict punishment for those found guilty.
