Ukhrul, April 29: The NSCN-Yung Aung (YA) has issued a strong statement condemning what it describes as a “cold-blooded ambush” by Indian security forces, which claimed the lives of two of its Naga army cadres and a civilian on April 27, 2025, in Pongchau, Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to the group’s press release, the ambush was a coordinated operation carried out by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles. The deceased cadres have been identified as Corporal Teya and Private Petoh, along with a civilian road contractor whose name was not disclosed. Three other NSCN-YA cadres were injured in the incident, the group said.

The group accused Indian forces of manipulating the aftermath, alleging that the civilian victim was dressed in Naga army fatigues posthumously and that additional weapons and explosives were planted near the bodies to bolster claims made in what it called a “one-sided and fabricated” press release issued by the Indian Army’s PRO.

“This is a vile and unthinkable act, done to justify their version of events and glorify themselves,” the statement read, further calling the incident a breach of “human decency.”

The NSCN-YA vowed that the deaths would not go unanswered, asserting that it would respond “at a time and place of our choosing.” Despite being outnumbered and surrounded, the group said its cadres refused to surrender and “died as true heroes.”

The organisation then extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for comfort and strength in this time of loss.
