UKHRUL: The Naga Students’ Organisation (NSO) has strongly condemned the reported repeated drone attacks targeting “Naga civilians in Myanmar-occupied Nagaland”, expressing serious concern over the safety of innocent residents and calling for an independent investigation into the incidents.
In a condemnation statement, the organisation expressed shock and deep concern over the reported drone attack on Langkho village in Lahe Township during the early hours of October 3, 2026, at around 1 am, allegedly carried out by the Indian armed forces.
According to NSO, two drones reportedly dropped four bombs on a residential house situated in the middle of the village. While two bombs exploded, the other two reportedly failed to detonate and remain buried at the site, posing a continuing threat to nearby residents.

The reported attack allegedly injured two civilians, including a nine-year-old Grade 5 schoolgirl and an adult male. The organisation stated that six civilians were occupying the affected house and stressed that the presence of unexploded ordnance posed an immediate danger, particularly to children and other residents, with no qualified personnel reportedly available to safely locate and defuse the devices.
The NSO said the reported targeting of a civilian household in the middle of a village, where children and elderly people were present, was deeply alarming and required urgent attention.
Raising concerns over the legal implications of cross-border military operations, the organisation said any military action carried out within the territory of another state raised serious questions concerning sovereignty, territorial integrity and the protection of civilians under international law.
It referred to Article 2(1) of the United Nations Charter, which affirms the sovereign equality of states, and Article 2(4), which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.
The NSO further emphasised that, where an armed conflict exists, international humanitarian law requires parties to distinguish between civilians and combatants, as well as civilian objects and military objectives. It said the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution must be upheld to protect civilian populations.

The NSO then called upon the Government of India to immediately conduct a transparent investigation into the reported incident and ensure that anyone found responsible for unlawful conduct is held accountable under applicable law. It also urged the Indian armed forces to exercise maximum restraint and ensure that military operations do not endanger innocent civilian communities across international borders.
The organisation also urged the Government of Myanmar to take the reported attacks seriously, protect affected civilians and communities, investigate alleged violations, and raise the matter through appropriate national, diplomatic and international channels.
Condemning violence against unarmed civilians, particularly children and elderly people, the NSO described attacks on civilian households and actions that place innocent lives at risk as wholly unacceptable. It called for accountability and respect for human rights, stressing that military strength must not be used to intimidate or endanger civilian populations.
The organisation also appealed to the United Nations, international human rights organisations, humanitarian agencies and other relevant international bodies to take note of the reported incidents and support an independent, impartial and transparent investigation into drone attacks affecting civilian communities in Naga areas of Myanmar-occupied Nagaland.
Stressing that the affected civilians and their families deserved justice, accountability and protection, the NSO said the reported incidents must not be ignored or allowed to continue without proper investigation.

The organisation also appealed to the Naga people to remain united and peaceful amid the continuing challenges, stating that unity, solidarity and peaceful cooperation were essential to safeguarding vulnerable communities and preserving their collective rights and dignity.
Expressing solidarity with the injured civilians and their families, the NSO extended its deepest sympathies to the affected family and wished those injured, particularly the young schoolgirl, a speedy and full recovery.
The organisation urged all concerned authorities to prioritise civilian protection, respect sovereignty and territorial integrity, uphold international law and take immediate measures to prevent further harm to innocent civilians.
