Ukhrul, May 3: The 56th edition of Pettigrew College’s Annual Sports Week cum Literary Meet 2025 concluded on Saturday at the college ground in Ukhrul.
The week-long event, which commenced on April 30, saw the participation of over 1,000 students from both the Science and Arts streams of the lone government college in Ukhrul District.
Dr. Ringkahao Horam, Principal of Pettigrew College, stated, “We are observing the 56th Annual Sports Week cum Literary Meet starting from April 30 till May 3. Today is the final day, and the men’s football final is currently underway. The literary meet was held yesterday. I would like to thank all the students, teaching, and non-teaching staff for their tremendous cooperation.”
During the sports meet, both male and female students competed in various disciplines including football, volleyball, kho-kho, long jump, high jump, marathon (from Bakshi to Pettigrew College), 100-metre race, 400-metre race, relay race, shot put, discus throw, arm wrestling, chess, badminton, table tennis, and tug-of-war.

The literary meet was marked by vibrant displays of traditional attire worn by participants and judges. Students showcased their talents in activities such as debate, extempore speech, dance, quiz, poetry slam, painting, and Haolaa (folk song) competition. Notably, the Haolaa competition was introduced for the first time to promote and preserve traditional culture.
The college comprises 12 departments (7 in Arts and 5 in Science) and is divided into four houses — Yellow, Green, Blue, and Red. The annual meet was organized to foster talent, skills, and camaraderie among students and faculty.
Pettigrew College is the only NAAC-accredited college in Ukhrul District and among the 10 colleges in Manipur selected to implement the 4-year degree courses under the NEP (New Education Policy). It currently offers BA and BSc programs under this system.
The college administration is also providing free transportation to 30 deserving students, based on specific terms and conditions set by the institution.
Established in 1965, Pettigrew College was initially run as a private institution for 12 years before being taken over by the Government of Manipur in 1977.
