Imphal: An ‘overground worker’ of the rebel group RPF/PLA, allegedly involved in extortion, was arrested by a combined team of Eastern Command Military Intelligence of Imphal and Thoubal Police Commando on Thursday, an official source said.

The arrested person has been identified as M Arjun Singh of Thoubal. He was nabbed along with another ‘overground worker’ of RPF/PLA during a search operation at some houses, acting as a specific input, the official source also said.

The official source, however, did not disclose the details of the other ‘overground worker’ nabbed but said that he was a former cadre of the PLA earlier arrested by the security forces.

The official source alleged that Arjun engaged in the collection of money from the toll tax points along the stretch of NH 102 and used to deliver the amount to a senior functionary of the PLA outfit.

He used to deliver the amount upon getting calls from the senior functionary with whom he was in constant touch with, the official source alleged.

He has a plan for the next delivery of the extorted money for the current month on March 25, it also said.

Timely action by the combined team of security forces led to the busting of the extortion racket and foiling of the delivery scheduled, the official source further disclosed.
