Imphal: With just 10 days left for first phase polls for the Manipur Legislative Assembly, scores of BJP leaders are arriving in the state to seek mandates for their party candidates. While many of its central leaders are camping and campaigning for the party candidates, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home minister Amit Shah are mostly likely to arrive in the state in the coming days.

The Prime Minister is most likely to arrive in the state next week for a few hours visit. He will address a party election rally in Imphal, a source close to the party said.

Few days later, senior leader and Union home minister Amit Shah is also likely to visit the state on February 26.

Meanwhile, Union minister for Women and Child Welfare, Smriti Irani who arrived in Imphal Friday, took part in the flag hoisting ceremony of party candidate and state education minister S Rajen Singh who is in the fray from Lamshang assembly constituency of Imphal West district.

Speaking on the occasion, Smriti Irani hit back at the Congress party while alleging that certain party (Congress) national leaders even did not know Manipur.

She then urged the gathering to keep no more faith in the Congress party, saying that even its leader Rahul Gandhi has no faith in his own party.

Irani then appealed to the people to vote in favour of the BJP so that the promises like imparting jobs to the youths, empowering women and welfare for the senior citizens can be translated to action.

“BJP never makes false promises. Once the party promised, it will be converted into work,” she said.

However, the party will be able to translate the promises only if the party forms a government of its own, she added.

The Union minister also addressed a party election rally at Chingmeirong in Imphal where she spoke about initiatives of the BJP government at the Centre on Women Empowerment and Child Education.

She also reiterated the promise of the BJP to provide free laptops to the meritorious students of Class-XII exam and scooters to meritorious female college students.

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb also arrived in Imphal to take part in the aggressive campaign of the BJP in the state.

Manipur will go to poll to elect 60 members of the state Assembly in two phases –on February 28 and March 5. The ruling BJP has fielded its candidates in all the 60 Assembly constituencies.
