The 2nd edition of Poumai Music Niih, under the theme “Rhythms of Unity, Beats of Tradition”, delivered a spectacular evening filled with music, nostalgia, and pride. The event was held at Khabung Karong Volleyball Court on November 9th, and it brought together music lovers of all ages from near and far. This year’s festival featured the much-anticipated return of legendary Naga bands, the Rahbo Band (formed in 1988) and Thunder Band (formed in 1989) after 35 years brought a wave of nostalgia, as their high-energy performances captivated the crowd, reminding everyone of their enduring appeal.
The evening also showcased the talents of P. Sapunii Neopu Yonah, a cultural icon from the Poumai community, who performed traditional folk songs and played the Gaigou, a Poumai musical instrument. Other standout performances included the unique and original performance of Drowzy Mamas Band, beloved hits from Zhetsiine, a folk fusion song by Jenny Rosii, and a Poumai classic by Liihva Kyapaomai. The stage was also graced by Rox the Metal Maestro, Pavei James, and B Rakhoveine, all of whom brought the house down with unforgettable performances. Adding youthful spirit, Veivane Stephen and Ethan Shoraivei, the youngest talents of the evening, showcased their impressive skills in singing and keyboard performance.
The event was enriched by the Buffalo Horn Blowing Ceremony and other traditional Poumai performances, which struck a balance between the modern and the traditional, captivating both young and old alike. Banner James Lanamai, the festival’s brand ambassador and RUBARU Mr. India 2022, formally inaugurated the event, setting the tone for an unforgettable night.

The event’s success was bolstered by collaborative efforts from local sponsors, including Pixel Studios and Visual Perception, who provided top-notch design and motion graphics, while Aveo Anxel Photography and Achevei Photography captured stunning moments throughout. IMS Teams handled the live streaming, allowing thousands to join online and amassing over 40,000 views. The flawless light and sound, courtesy of K2 Lights and DK Sound & Music Store, along with decorations by Dream Planner, added a professional polish to the night.
The organising committee expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Poumai Naga Union (PNU), Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM), and the Khabung Karong Youth & Students Organizations (KKYSO) for their invaluable support, as well as to all volunteers, donors, and well-wishers who contributed to making this event a success. This year’s festival witnessed extensive community involvement, drawing together supporters, fans, and Poumai youth from across the region in a powerful display of unity and pride. Inspired by the overwhelming support from the community, the organisers are already planning an even bigger and better celebration for the next edition.
