Ramreichan Keishing elected as the 22nd Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong President

Ukhrul: In a closely fought general election of the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), the apex Tangkhul students’ body in Ukhrul headquarters on Wednesday, Ramreichan Keishing has been elected as the new president of the Saklong.

The 22nd general election was held at the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) hall in Viewland – II between two TKS presidential candidates, Ramreichan Keishing and Yuimi Vashum.

Ramreichan Keishing, former vice president of TKS, who hails form Phungyar village defeated Yuimi Vashum of Talui village, who was also the former general secretary of TKS by 36 votes of the total 460 votes casted.

The oath taking and official handing over of the new office was administered by chief election commissioner Elu Ndang, former general secretary of the Naga Students’ Federation. The other two chief election commission member for the election were Adokiho Sumi, vice president NSF and Hashokmi Khongreiyo former TKS general secretary.

The new TKS president, Ramreichan Keishing replaces Shimri Raising for the tenure 2023 till 2026.

TKS election was held on Wednesday after the dissolution of the office of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on May 3, 2023.

In accordance with the powers and functions conferred under Article Twenty-Six Clause (3)(b) of the Constitution of the Naga Students’ Federation, the Election Commission had announced fresh elections for tenure 2023-2026.

It is worth noting that Shimri Raising had won the last election held in 2020 from Peh unit.
