IMPHAL, NOV 16: A joint operation by Manipur Police, CRPF and Assam Rifles on Sunday led to the arrest of a self-styled “Major” of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) from a rented house in Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai, Imphal West.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Koijam Ibochouba, 45, known by several aliases including Inao, Sumo, Somo and Pansareng. Originally from Yairipok Malom Mamang Leikai, he had been staying at Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai. Police said he has been on the wanted list for his alleged role in the 2017 Sajik Tampak ambush that killed personnel of 4 Assam Rifles.

Following his arrest, the security team was led to a farm at Kharungpat in Kakching district, where a plastic drum buried in the ground was dug out. Inside was a sizeable stash of arms and ammunition.
According to Manipur Police, the recovery included an M-16 rifle, eight SLRs, a .303 LMG, two .303 rifles, assorted magazines, nearly 200 rounds of Amogh ammunition, SLR rounds, three 2-inch mortars, two IEDs, a detonator, electric circuits, and a mobile phone.
The items have been seized and further investigation is underway to identify other links and possible plans connected to the recovered explosives and weapons.
