A team of the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA), the district apex student body inspected the landslide area at Khongnem Thana as the road condition is deteriorating and worsening day by day due to rain. The spot is about 12 kms north of Senapati Police Station under Senapati district.
Massive landslide totally cut off NH-2 the main lifeline of Manipur state on October 23, 2020 last year. About 40-50 meters length and 30 feet depth approximately was washed away in the landslide at the portion.
During the inspection, team of the district student body found out that the road construction is incomplete with temporary cutting only for emergency passage during the last landslide.
Talking over phone, Pung Mark, President, Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) lamented that no drainage was made at the area where it is inevitable for another landslide with the arrival of monsoon. Mention may be made that one trailer truck fell off the road last month at the same spot. Posing threat especially for heavy trucks to pass along the area as it has started to sink by now.
In view of the worsening condition of the highway which is the main lifeline of the whole state SDSA appeals the state Govt, the PWD and the BIPL who are in charge of the highway to immediately look into the matter and expedite the work process at the earliest, before unpredictable hardships come to fore.
