Sheemai (Maiba) village observes ‘Thanksgiving Day’ after completion of motorable road construction through donation

Senapati: With no major developmental project relating to improvement of road connectivity to the village till date, the villagers decided to start constructing road with humble donations from well wishers of the village as well as outside the village. This made the villagers to observe as Thanksgiving Day on completion of the temporary road connectivity to the village on January 20 cum Declaration of 100% Household Water Tap connection under Jal Jeevan Mission.

L.D. David, chairman, Sheemai (Maiba) village in his welcome note lauded the village road development committee that has brought motorable road to the village which is the long cherished dream of the village. Later, the village chairman declared that the villagers have received 100% water tap connection in every household for which, the village chairman expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for introducing the Jal Jeevan Mission in the country.

In his report, L.S. Thole, Superintending Engineer (Retd), PHED cum Convenor, Maiba Road Development Committee mentioned that Sheemai (Maiba) village under Paomata block, Senapati district, Manipur is a recognised revenue village located at a distance of 8 kms away from State Highway (Maram-Phaibung Road, Koide village) and 24 kms away from NH-2 (Maram Bazaar), has a population of 3041 heads with 537 households as per 2011 census.

The village was first declared as ODF (Open Defecation Free) village in the month of January, 2018 under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) program and also has achieved 100% functional water tap household connection by December, 2021 under Jal Jeevan Mission. However, the village has not been properly connected with the rest of the adjoining villages and road connectivity facility taken up under PMGSY program has not reached the village till date. As a result, all economic activities of the village have been cut off leading the village to remain economically backward. Having experienced the misery in travelling over the dilapidated road condition for long, a committee called “Maiba Road Development Committee” was constituted to see into the construction works.

The work commenced from November 15, 2021 and continued till December 14, 2021 with usage of 4 JCB machines, 1 excavator, 2 Shaktiman, 4-5 Tata dumpers with 5-10 manpower everyday in leveling of road, removing of landslide debris, digging of drain, cutting of narrow portions, spreading of river stone pebbles collected from Barak river banks, Koide Biisho, collecting locally available hard shale mixed with stones that now has made a temporary motorable road to the village from Koide village.

The Convenor of the committee on behalf of the villagers appealed the Govt of Manipur to kindly look into such problem/hardships the villagers have been facing since long. He also appealed the concerned authority to take up road connectivity program in the village at the earliest possible time.

It may be worth mentioning here that vaccination drive to the village was also delayed for inaccessibility of road connectivity to the village the previous year. People of the village are enjoying better water supply to every household where the retired Superintending Engineer also urged the villagers to protect the water catchment areas and to preserve forest to get sufficient water. When tap water has been connected to every household, the senior engineer also asked all not to waste water uselessly.

Rev L.L. Sousho, senior pastor blessed the program as well as for all concerned whoever had taken part in the successful mission to bring motorable road to the village through prayer.

Different elders of the village lauded the donors and whoever had given their tireless services for the successful mission towards development of the village. They expressed joy to see such wonders adding they could see their dreams in reality this day.

Total amount received from different donors listed Rs. 21,30,000/- with 15 individuals who had donated more than Rs. 50,000/- till this day.
