Shillong surges to top in Air quality

SHILLONG: As India confronts hazardous Air Quality Index levels, Shillong has emerged as a rare bright spot.

The latest Monthly Ambient Air Quality report by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) recorded an exceptionally low PM2.5 concentration of just 7 µg/m³—well below the national limit of 60 µg/m³.

Ranked among India’s cleanest-air cities, alongside Karnataka, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Shillong stands out as only 114 of 255 monitored cities met national PM2.5 standards.
