Ukhrul: Sinakeithei Village has issued a final notice regarding the worsening security situation attributed to aggressive and unauthorized activities by Kuki militants currently under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) Pact. Also, the authority has written to the Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, requesting urgent government intervention.
In a press statement, the village authority stated, “Militants have brazenly constructed bunkers and makeshift camps within Sinakeithel Village’s jurisdiction, systematically encroaching on residential areas and posing a direct threat to civilian safety. The Leplen-Tingpibung road beneath the Lungter Mountain Range has been illegally occupied. Armed militants from the T Gamnom Camp and Mt. Sinai Camp are manning checkpoints around the clock, restricting freedom of movement.”
Further, it stated that besides targeting only the Naga locals, Nepalis in the area have also come under gunfire from the Kuki militants.
“The routine gunfire, aimed at instilling psychological unrest among the local populace, has notably increased. This was particularly evident on March 12, 2026, when armed Kuki militants fired automatic rifles, advancing nearly into the village’s residential zones. On March 15, 2026, the sound of gunfire disrupted the weekly church service, causing churchgoers to flee for their safety,” the authority explained.
The village authority has accused the Security Forces stationed in Sinakeithei Village of failing to address the situation adequately.

“Despite drone surveillance operations and regular patrols, they reported no bunkers in the areas locals requested them to investigate. However, independent drone footage captured images of fortified bunkers precisely where the locals had indicated,” the authority said.
“This discrepancy raises suspicions of foul play or a deliberate attempt to obscure the strategic reality on the ground. Moreover, despite the community’s repeated pleas, the Security Forces have not dismantled these illegal bunkers. This continued inaction can only be seen as a sign of indifference,” they added.

With the community’s patience running thin, the authority warned that residents would not remain silent observers if action is not taken promptly. “Any damage, loss of life, or escalation of violence resulting from this negligence will rest solely on the shoulders of the Government of India,” the authority warned.
Moreover, in the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, the Sinakeithei Village Authority has sought urgent medical aid and supply of essential commodities, dismantling of militant bunkers at Lunter Hill Range, and relocation and stringent monitoring of SoO Camps.
