Suspected Militant of Banned Outfit Arrested Near Sekmai with Links to Myanmar Training Camp

Imphal, July 11: A joint team of the Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi, and the 16th Assam Rifles arrested a suspected active cadre of the banned outfit PREEPAK (VC-Red Army) during routine frisking and checking near Maharabi, under Sekmai Police Station, at around 10:30 am on Friday, police said.

The operation was led by Subedar L. Bebekananda Singh, Officer-in-Charge of the Special Commando Unit. The team noticed a man approaching on foot from Sekmai towards Imphal in a suspicious manner near an oil pump and detained him for verification, the police also said.

Upon spot verification, the individual identified himself as Chingakham Sanjoy Singh alias Eremba Singh (42), a resident of Kadangband Part-2 Awang Leikai, Manipur, the police added.

A money bag, Aadhaar card, and PAN card were recovered from his possession. During further questioning, he reportedly confessed to being an active member of the proscribed outfit PREPAK (Red Army). He claimed to have joined the organization on March 15, 2024, through one Thoudam Bisharup, and underwent 45 days of basic military training at Sangkai Training Centre in Myanmar, as part of the 185th training batch. His assigned army number is 5410243.

Based on the findings, he was formally arrested at 12:15 pm. The arrested individual, along with the recovered items, has been handed over to Sekmai Police Station for necessary legal action.
