UKHRUL: The Tanrui Tangkhul Naga village has reported attacks by Kuki militants on the nights of June 9 and 10. In response, the villagers have urged the Government of Manipur to take action against these militants.

In a press release, the Tanrui village media cell has alleged that on the night of June 9, 2026, around 8:20 PM, Kuki militants fired several shots from sophisticated weapons towards the village, originating from a fortified bunker in the neighboring Thingphai Kuki village. This initial gunfire, however, was just a precursor to a more severe attack. On the following night, at approximately 10:50 PM, the Kuki militants unleashed a barrage of heavy gunfire on the village, coinciding with the devastating announcement of the discovery of six innocent Naga hostages’ mutilated bodies.

The villagers reported that the militants who discharged the weapons were stationed at Thingphai and C. Kholen Kuki villages. They described the continuous heavy firing, which targeted civilians and persisted until midnight, indicating that the attacks were intended to inflict harm on the villagers.

“This series of unprovoked acts of aggression suggests a premeditated offensive plan aimed at showcasing their barbaric behavior during a time when the community’s collective conscience was deeply shaken by the brutal murder of the six innocent Naga hostages. Such bloodthirsty violence and remorseless bravado have no place in any civilized society and warrant the strongest condemnation from all corners of humanity, regardless of community, race, or region,” the villagers stated.

Additionally, the villagers reported similar gunfire incidents on April 24, characterizing these actions as part of an escalating pattern of aggression that threatens the fragile peace maintained in the area through the restraint and generosity of the people of Tanrui Village. They described these attacks as a scare tactic to disrupt the villagers during the paddy planting season, thereby undermining their livelihoods.

The Tanrui villagers strongly advised the authorities of Thingphai and C. Kholen Kuki villages to prevent any unruly elements, which pose a threat to civilized society, from using their jurisdictions as breeding grounds for violence and hatred that could undermine the hard-earned peaceful coexistence.

They also called on the Government of Manipur to take decisive action against the menace posed by these Kuki militants and to implement adequate security measures to protect the lives and livelihoods of the people of Tanrui village from further aggression.
