Institute of Hotel Management Shillong in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism and supported by Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship had organized a training program under the scheme “Capacity Building for Service Providers” for the inclusive trainees from Bethany Society in Shillong on November 19.
Secretary of NEC K. Moses Chalai inaugurated the training program as a chief guest in presence of BIT Adviser R Lalrodingi, Bethany Society Executive Director Carmo Naroha, Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship, MAS Director B K Sohliya and Meghalaya’s Confederation of Tourism President Banlum Blah.
Highlighting that differently abled people are more able in many ways, Chalai said they too could skill themselves up and with such training program to able to render opportunities for themselves.
This is the first time that such training is being provided to differently abled people to create employment opportunities with the objective of not leaving anyone behind, said Carmo Naroha.
Speaking in the same line, Sohliya said that unlike the general perception that differently abled people have limited opportunities, it is not so. “In fact, if provided with proper opportunities, they too can do well in life,” he said and promised to extend every possible help and support to this section of the society.
The Confederation of Tourism President mentioned that the tourism sector would need the services of the differently abled people like anyone else and looks forward to employing them in future.
While offering the vote of thanks, IHM Principal Vijay Kumar said that such a training program is different and the institute aims at creating more such employment opportunities for them in the future.
