Agartala, Jun 28: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has deployed a four-member fact-finding team including a former Mumbai police commissioner, former Chief Minister of Tripura and current Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb to examine the alleged gang rape case at a Kolkata law college, intensifying political pressure on the West Bengal government over rising crime against women.

Following the incident, party national president JP Nadda reportedly expressed serious concern over what he described as a tragic incident involving a student in Kolkata, where communal miscreants allegedly committed an extremely condemnable act.

As per the press release, the four-member investigative committee will be led by Satpal Singh, former Union Minister and ex-Police Commissioner of Mumbai. Other members include former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi, Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb from Tripura, and Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra.

According to the press release issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh on Jun 28, the committee will reportedly visit the incident site soon and submit its findings to the party’s national leadership.

The move comes amid growing criticism of the Trinamool Congress government’s handling of law and order in West Bengal. The BJP has consistently alleged that the state has witnessed a deterioration in women’s safety under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s administration.
